Generally, NYCERS membership is open to all employees of the City of New York and Participating Employers except those who are eligible for membership in the Police or Fire Department pension fund, or the Teachers or Board of Education retirement system.
New members typically receive their NYCERS member number and detailed retirement plan brochures by mail within six to eight weeks of submitting a membership application.
After receiving your NYCERS member number, remember to register for a MyNYCERS account to designate your beneficiaries and manage your pension account online.
