Join NYCERS
Generally, NYCERS membership is open to all employees of the City of New York and Participating Employers except those who are eligible for membership in the Police or Fire Department pension fund, or the Teachers or Board of Education retirement system.
You can apply for NYCERS membership online by clicking the “Join NYCERS” button below, or, if you prefer to apply by mail, download and complete Application for Membership for NYCERS-Eligible Employees Form #103.
New members typically receive their NYCERS member number and detailed retirement plan brochures by mail within six to eight weeks of submitting a membership application.
After receiving your NYCERS member number, remember to register for a MyNYCERS account to designate your beneficiaries and manage your pension account online. Learn more about the online services available through MyNYCERS

Plan Descriptions
NYCERS’ retirement plans are categorized into “tiers.” Currently, there are five distinct tiers: Tier 6, Tier 4, Tier 3, Tier 2 and Tier 1. (NYCERS does not have a Tier 5.) Generally, your job title and the date you joined NYCERS determine your tier placement.
